Typical village aire, within easy walking distance of a quaint village. Our first stop in June 2018 the electricity was on and a gentleman came and collected a 4€ free in the late afternoon, twelve months later the electricity was off and no fee was collected. The approach roads in the village are rather narrow and there is an eclectic mixture of shops in Verteuil sur Charente. Rather than take the obvious route from the aire into the centre walk across the adjacent park, cross the river and wend your way into the village that way.

Arrival at the aire about 11.30 am.will give you time to stroll into the village and start studying lunch menus - perhaps Cafe Portebleue? The tables will start filling up soon after 1200.

Arrived 11:30 as suggested could only get table outside at Portbleu no problem as 30 + degrees ! Excellent lunch. Lovely Aire no electric no fee. As first time on Aire good experience just 6 vans. Will try some more. Might need one when travelling north past Bordeaux any recommendations?

I always try to stay well clear of large urbanisations like Bordeaux. The one at Futurescope always seems popular but not stayed there myself. I have used the one at La Celle-Saint-Avant which is very good (barrier entry and optional EHU) and one very quiet one at Availles-en-Châtellerault.(also a French Passion site) Check out search4sites for more.
