High Onn Club Campsite is set in such a peaceful spot that it will be hard to believe that you are less than 11 miles away from the motorway network. Views from this location are typical, traditional English farmland, with some fantastic scenery to be seen towards The Wrekin and Shropshire hills. This well maintained yet unspoilt site offers pure relaxation. The narrow quiet lanes around the caravan site make for excellent cycling territory and are ideal for strolls along the Shropshire Union Canal.
Holiday makers who use the High Onn Club Campsite as a stopover often end up returning or staying on a week or two extra to visit the many treats to be found while caravanning through Staffordshire. With such a relaxed ambience and with its history as a wartime RAF base, you'll no doubt want to return as well. There are many attractions in the vicinity, including Ironbridge, the caves, walks and views at Hawkstone Follies, Weston Park and the RAF Cosford Aerospace Museum. The Royal Oak in the nearby village of Church Eaton, serves great food and real ales. In addition to all this, extensive private dog walks will provide the perfect treat for the four-legged members of your family.

Please only use these recommended directions for the final approach and not sat nav, due to alternative routes being unsuitable for towing.From North and South: Leave M6 at junction 12 onto A5 (signposted Telford, Shrewsbury). Within 6 miles (about 2.25 miles after passing under canal aqueduct) enter right filter lane (avoid right filter lane into garage) to turn right between petrol station and Bradford Arms public house (signposted Wheaton Aston, Lapley). Within 2 miles in Wheaton Aston turn left into Marston Road (signposted Marston, High Onn). Within 1.5 miles in Marston continue right (signposted Little Onn, Church Eaton). In about 0.5 mile turn left (signposted High Onn, Chatwell, Newport). In 150 yards turn right (signposted High Onn). The Site is on the left in 0.5 mile. Care is required from Wheaton Aston to site, as the lane is narrow with passing places.

You can’t please all of the people all of the time!
High Onn Club Campsite
The site is basically a hidden gem but needs some investment by the CAMC to bring it up to club site standard, weed filled pitches and rotten wood around service points as examples. No toilet block which some reviews slated but we all have on board facilities! No problem for us. At the time of our visit the regular warden had just passed away so the site was being run with temporary wardens who were doing a sterling job. The big ticks in the box for this site are location and quietness, the access roads are not for the feint hearted as locally they are single lane with passing places. Plenty to do locally, we visited the potteries in Stoke, the RAF museum at Cosford and the Black Country museum. We will definitely be back to this site as we loved it but hope that the required maintenance is completed before then.
The Club will ignore this review as it clearly has others on the same site.....
High Onn Club Campsite
We've been caravanners for 13-14 years, staying on pitches ranging from fully serviced to just plain basic, as at High Onn.
I've read half a dozen of the reviews here and more than one or two make reference to the absolutely brilliant wardens. They were probably as friendly, welcoming, and helpful as any we've had - really could not have been more personable. As another has commented, they'd even printed out the very necessary directions on how to get out again - the lanes are VERY confusing! Rated on just wardens, it's a five from us.
That's unfortunately where it ends. The site itself is - not to put too fine a point on it - a mess. We've noticed recently at Hunter's Moon and at one or two others that the Club appears to have cut back the budget on maintenance of the pitches but High Onn takes that to a whole new level. We did see a sign out of the corner of our eye one day that said that the grass was being left less manicured (though I never saw noticed it again) but the hardstanding pitches are, in some cases, almost entirely obscured with weeds, totally thin layers of gravel, and at the entrance to our pitch it was essentially just mud which we spent the whole visit jumping over.
The Service points are well placed but the loo-emptying sections had rotten wood, the recycling was negligible (one bin marked "general waste" - another "recycling" - and three more with nothing at all on them so no idea whether one or the other.) I suspect recycling from the site is non-existent as a result.
Turning to the positives - outside the site, the dog walk was nice (but why leads? it's fully enclosed and they're unnecessary). The public footpath to the canal is an absolute delight, as is the canal itself, and we also visited the Hawkstone Follies - an expensive "walk" it might look but we ended up spending 3 hours or more really enjoying the place.
My wife looked up High Onn on her i-phone map and the aerial shot of High Onn showed a pristine, attractive site. It is no longer either. Quiet, yes, and well placed and very rural - but it really is about time the Club, who are when all is said and done extremely wealthy (it's my job to read accounts!) - took note of reviews such as this - because what made it feel like a fairly exclusive band of caravanners and motor-homers is now beginning to feel like a Club that is losing its way very rapidly.
Great, quiet and friendly site
High Onn Club Campsite
My partner and I and our dog stayed here for 4 nights over August bank Holiday. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, feeding treats to our dog every time we passed by. Lovely quiet,secluded site, close to many attractions. Along with our dog, we enjoy canalside walks. The Shropshire Union canal is close by. The views around the site are amazing. Overall we had a great time, and again the staff were so helpful. Thanks very much. Highly recommended.!
Quiet and friendly
High Onn Club Campsite
I like canals, so this was ideal for me and my dog for a weekend. The site wardens couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The site was secluded with plenty of space. Just remember that you need your own toilet facilities, in my case a toilet tent next to my campervan.
Could be a Lot Better
High Onn Club Campsite
We have just returned from a week at High Onn. The Wardens are very helpful and very friendly. However, the site itself is looking rather sad and unkempt. Not the standard we normally expect from Caravan and Motorhome Club. Pitches are not maintained by any weeding whatsoever. It is difficult to see the edge of the pitch and where the grass is supposed to start. On our pitch we had masses of thistles, nettles and dandelions. The all looked the same. Even the seasonal pitches were overgrown around their vans and awnings. The grass was only cut in one section around the water/waste points once. We got to know another couple who use it as a regular place and they were disgusted too. For some reason the Warden often had the gates closed when you wanted to go out. If you used the dog walk up the lane, you wou ld be unable to get back in to site on your return if they were closed. They are 6' high solid wooden gates. The site itself is very peaceful apart from when the sheep escape from a neighbouring field and bleat outside your van all night. The directions given to site are spot on, and the wardens have even gone to the trouble of printing directions out of site to the main A5. No village to walk into, so visited Lichfield to see the Cathedral. (If you have a dog, you are not allowed in the cathedral. I aim to find out why, as lots of Cathedrals now allow access if you have a dog. Lincoln,Chelmsford and Bury st Edmunds to name but three. We probably will visit again at some point as it is so peaceful, and there is a lot of interesting places to visit in the area.
