Days 7 - 8: Ucluelet
Distance: 182 km / 113 miles
Drive across the island on Highway 4 and wind your way through Cathedral Grove with its ancient Douglas fir trees. Check out the Mars fire bomber based at Sproat Lake or, if you stroll a bit further along the beach, enjoy a close up view of the ancient petroglyphs.
You’ll be spoilt for choice for things to do in the small village of Ucluelet (known colloquially as 'Ukee'). There’s whale and bear watching, fishing, hiking, biking, ocean kayaking, zip lining...and if you're not feeling quite that adventurous, there's always the Ukee dining and sunset cruise. You could also visit nearby Tofino to explore the Pacific Rim and Long Beach.
Day 9: Parksville
Distance: 147 km / 91 miles
Head north on Highway 19A to Parksville where you can relax on the sandy beaches and admire the stunning shoreline of Qualicum Beach.
Days 10 - 11: Whistler
Distance: 197 km / 122 miles
This morning you’ll return to the mainland by ferry and drive the stunning ‘Sea to Sky’ Highway along the many fjords of the Pacific Coast to Whistler, a bustling summer destination and ski-resort in the winter. During your two night stay you can discover soaring mountains, dramatic waterfalls and plenty of parks and outdoor activities.
Day 12: Lillooet
Distance: 130 km / 80 miles
Follow the beautiful Duffey Lake Road straight across the scenic Coast Mountains to Lillooet.
Days 13 - 14: Wells Gray Provincial Park
Distance: 266 km / 165 miles
On today’s drive you can experience British Columbia’s historic gold rush past. This journey takes you past historic buildings, through unique geological landscapes, and to parts of the original Cariboo Wagon Road that were used by more than 10,000 pioneers during the 1860s.
Wells Gray Provincial Park is famous for wildlife including grizzlies, black bear, caribou, wolves, cougar, moose and mountain goats, as well as for its waterfalls and wilderness. Make sure you visit Dawson Falls and Helmcken Falls, which plunge down into mist-filled gorges.
