Days 1 - 3: New York
You can fly directly to New York from most international UK airports, taking between 8-10 hours on average. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your centrally located 4-star hotel, where you will spend the next three nights.
New York is bursting with places to visit and things to do, from museums to monuments and everything in between. Why not catch a show on Broadway or head up the Empire State building for stunning views across the city.
Days 4 - 5: Preston
Distance: 160 miles
Suggested campsite: Hidden Acres
Leave the high rises of central New York for the Cruise America depot in Newark where you'll pick up your motorhome. Head around Long Island Sound before driving northeast towards your first stop in the Preston area. You may want to stop at the Barnum Museum in Bridgeport where the flamboyant circus man was once Mayor.
Days 6 - 7: Sandwich
Distance: 125 miles
Suggested campsite: Scusset Beach
Today you will head down the scenic eastern shore of the Thames River (yes, you read that correctly!) to visit Mystic Seaport. This was once a great whaling port and shipyard for fast clippers and has a splendid outdoor museum. Here you can discover many old ships and examples of New England life two hundred years ago.
A visit to Newport, Rhode Island is a must, to see the massive summer mansions of the Vanderbilts. This was the setting for F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and the mansions are quite something to behold.
Days 8 - 9: Plymouth
Distance: 55 miles
Suggested campsite: Pinewood Lodge
Be sure to visit Hyannis, the Kennedy family’s hometown before heading north towards Plymouth where in 1620 the Mayflower landed the Pilgrims. You may also wish to make a stop at the Plimoth Plantation, a recreation of a Pilgrim’s village from 1627 and learn about their way of life. Another option is Plymouth Rock where it is said that the Pilgrims first set foot in America.
Days 10 - 11: Salisbury Beach
Distance: 145 miles
Suggested campsite: Salisbury Beach
Continue north and past the city of Boston and make stop in Lexington where there was the first skirmish that started the Revolutionary War. North Salem in New Hampshire is also worth a stop as it is homes to America’s 4,000 year old Stonehenge. Salem is worth a visit to learn the history of the infamous witchcraft trials in 1692.
Days 12 - 13: Bar Harbour
Distance: 235 miles
Suggested campsite: Bar Harbour
Today will take you to Maine with its dramatic and scenic coastline. Your destination is Bar Harbour on Mt Desert Island which is surrounded by the cliffs and seascapes of the Acadia National Park.
Days 14 - 15: Mount Blue State Park
Distance: 160 miles
Suggested campsite: Mount Blue State Park
Head inland to Bangor Maine’s capital and then on to the state’s picturesque interior where your destination is the Mount Blue State Park, home to moose, red squirrels and the more elusive black bear and coyote. Places to visit include the picturesque Webb Beach and nearby Center Hill.
Days 16 - 18: Bethlehem
Distance: 100 miles
Suggested campsite: Beech Hill Campground
Cross into New Hampshire where mountains dominate the scenery. You'll get a good look at Mount Washington, sitting 6,288 feet, as you drive further into the White Mountain National Forest. You could take a trip to the summit of Mount Washington on the 1869 coal-fired cog railway.
Days 19 - 20: Gifford Woods
Distance: 125 miles
Suggested campsite: Gifford Woods or Ricker Pond
Today you will cross into Vermont and on to the year-round resort surrounding Killington Peak. As you pass through Hanover make a stop at the world-famous Dartmouth College, established in 1769, the ninth oldest institution of higher education in the United States and one of the nine colonial colleges chartered before the American Revolution.
Days 21 - 22: Arlington
Distance: 60 miles
Suggested Campsite: Battenkill
As you head south to New York State, make a stop in Arlington, right on the edge of Green Mountain National Forest. Not too far away in Massachusetts is the Norman Rockwell Museum, worth a visit for his depictions of America's 'golden age'.
Day 23 - 24: Lazy River
Distance: 140 miles
Suggested Campsite: Lazy River
As you come towards the end of your tour, the route takes you into New York State as you head south following the Hudson River. Eventually, this will bring you to Hyde Park, the birthplace and home of Franklin D Roosevelt where both he and wife Eleanor are buried.
Days 25 - 26: New York
Distance: 75 miles
This morning you will make the short journey back to Newark to return your RV before transferring to the airport for your overnight flight back to the UK.
