Cape Town and the Garden Route

Days 1 - 3: Cape Town

Fly from the UK to Cape Town. Landing on day 2 you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for the next 2 nights. 

On the afternoon of day 3, you'll enjoy an included tour to Bo Kaap (The Malay Quarter) which is situated on the slopes of Signal Hill above the city centre. Continue to the cable car station at the foot of Table Mountain for a ride to the top for some amazing views across Cape Town and a glass of sparkling wine. Continue to the V&A Waterfront for an included welcome dinner.

Days 4 - 5: The West Coast

Transfer to the Motorhome depot where you will collect your motorhome vehicle and start your overland journey to the West Coast with its wide, open spaces, charming fishing villages, unspoilt beaches and abundant animal and marine life.

Included is a visit to the West Coast National Park. Prepare yourself for endless natural beauty, a string of secret beaches, uncrowded braai spots, tons of exhilarating outdoor adventures, and some of the best wildflower spotting in the land.

We also suggest taking the 35 minute drive from Langebaan to Paternoster for a visit to the beautiful Fishing Village town. Take a walk through the beautiful Cape Columbine Nature Reserve and enjoy a crayfish lunch before heading back to camp.  

Day 6: Touws River

The pretty little railway town of Touws River sits between Barrydale and Ladismith in the little Karoo. Touws River is set on the fringes of the Klein Karoo, basically a valley sandwiched between the Langeberg and the Outeniqua Mountains, which in turn separates the Little Karoo from the Garden Route’s coastal strip. 

Days 7 - 8: Oudtshoorn
Distance: 253km/158m

On the journey to Oudtshoorn make a stop at Cango Caves for an included Heritage Tour. The 20 million-year-old Cango Caves system consists of a series of hidden chambers cut deep into a thick limestone rock layer, it is one of the world’s great natural wonders, sculptured by nature through the ages.

Oudtshoorn is a town in the Klein Karoo area of South Africa’s Western Cape. It’s known for its ostrich farms and rests along the Route 62 wine route. 

On day 8 is an included morning tour to an Ostrich Farm where you can learn more about these remarkable birds and their fascinating nature. In the afternoon we’ll continue to Bufflesdrift Game Lodge to meet Jabari, Bulelo and Malaika, three orphan elephants originally from Kruger National Park, as part of their daily routine you will have the opportunity to give them a brush

Days 9 - 10: Camdeboo National Park

As you leave Oudtshoorn behind, your journey will take you via Meirings Poort where you can stop at the beautiful Meirings Poort Waterfall. Continue to Camdeboo National Park which boasts 43 species of mammals, 336 species of plants and over 225 recorded species of bird life as well as the Cape Buffalo which is one of the Big Five. 

On the afternoon of day 10 is an included and guided tour to the Valley of Desolation which starts with an introduction to the Fauna and Flora of the Graaff-Reinet region. Game may be spotted on the drive up to the Valley of Desolation such as Kudu, Blesbuck, Springbok and Mountain Rhebuck. At the Toposcope a brief overview of the surrounding mountains is given, as well as information on the way of life of the people of Graaff-Reinet. 

Days 11 - 12: Addo Elephant Park

On day 12 you will get to experience a half day guided Addo Elephant National Park Safari, giving you the best chance to see all that it has to offer. Not only do the guides have trained eyes for spotting wildlife but they also have local knowledge regarding animal identification, local history, vegetation, local culture, and plenty of local stories to round off a great tour. 

Days 13 - 15: Garden Route
Distance: 330km/206m

Continue your journey from Addo to Sedgefield which forms part of the Garden Route of South Africa. Travel through Port Elizabeth, Jeffreys Bay, Storms River and Knysna. Make a stop at Tsitsikamma National Park and take a short hike to visit The Big Tree. Continue through the town of Knysna and enjoy lunch at one of the many restaurants located in the Waterfront.

High on the must-see lists of most visitors to South Africa is the Garden Route, and with good reason: you can’t help but be seduced by the glorious natural beauty. The Garden Route's range of topography, vegetation, wildlife, and outdoor activities is remarkable. The coast is dotted with excellent beaches, while inland you’ll find picturesque lagoons and lakes, rolling hills and eventually the mountains of the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma ranges that divide the verdant Garden Route from the arid Little Karoo. Visit Knysna and enjoy an included trip to the Featherbed Nature Reserve.
