Why stay here ...

Located in a tranquil and beautiful nature reserve in the Vecht valley, this site is perfect for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. It’s spacious, with generously sized pitches arranged around large fields, all of which are level and grassy. Facilities are plentiful and kept spotlessly clean.

A small petting farm, playground and paddling pool will entertain children, while the riverside provides a great spot for some sun bathing or fishing. The onsite restaurant serves delicious food and the staff are always welcoming.

Dalfsen, with its lively market, and Vilsteren are both within cycling distance and the site can provide prepared routes on request. Children will enjoy a trip to the Wildlands Adventure Zoo. Rechteren Casle – the last of the province’s remaining medieval castles – is a 30-minute drive.

Beautifully Relaxing & Fantastic Cycling

Arendshorst
One of the most peaceful and spacious sites we've ever visited. 2.5 hours after leaving the ferry in Hook of Holland we were pulling into the site access. Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff - like all dutch people speaking great English. The English version of the site and local area handbook that we were given was so useful. We visited Arendshorst for the cycling facilities in the area and had a most fabulous time. We cycled over 200 miles using the amazing Fietsknoop network - absolutely brilliant and such a great app on the phone making it so easy to follow set routes or design our own. Local towns are so easy to visit by bike - Ommen, Vilsterren, Dedemsvaart, and Zwolle was really interesting all of which were accessed on the cycle network without using even minor roads. Arendshorst was a superb site for our holiday. The site was very calm and quiet with spacious pitches and immaculately clean washrooms. All hot water for showers and washing up is on a pre-payment site card which is easy to top up if required and the balance is refunded on departure. Pitches are large and level with grey water waste, electric, and fresh water. The river at the edge of the site is obviously popular for fishing and the on-site bar and restaurant was great. The fresh bread cooked on site every day is a must as is the apple cake. This is an excellent site for a relaxing visit to a delightful part of Holland and a great holiday.

Wonderful location and incredibly helpful site owner

Arendshorst
This site is beautifully situated within easy reach of Ommen by a safe cycle path through scenic fields. Idyllic quiet pitch with spotlessly clean toilet block. Michael was incredibly helpful when I injured my hand and spent time ensuring I got the help I needed. Would definitely return and highly recommend this site.

We can endorse all the positive features mentioned in previous reviews. The site was winding down for the winter while we were there, but was still quite busy. We spent an interesting 2 weeks, mostly cycling from the site but with day trips to Utrecht and elsewhere. On arrival, Michael suggested we upgrade to one of the riverside plots, which was an excellent choice as the river was a constant source of interest with geese, herons, and ducks, with the only downside being a longer walk to the facilities. Highly recommended.

Great campsite, lovely people - worth a visit

Arendshorst
Just back from two fab weeks in the Netherlands, the second week was spent at the wonderful Camping Resort de Arendshorst. We have stayed here before and knew that the site would provide a perfect place to relax and unwind but as we had our grandson Ethan with us, we also knew that it is a great site for family adventures. The site is right on the river, so we got to swim each day and use our dinghy - the river is deep but the current is not strong. There is a shallow beach area for smaller children and also a 0.3 mtr deep splash pool away from the river for toddlers. There is a petting zoo on site with goats and chickens, Ethan thought the goats were hilarious and visited them at every opportunity. There is also a decent sized kids play park and even outdoor table tennis tables on the main fields. Pitches are arranged around the edges of two very large fields and along the river bank, we asked for a riverside pitch, as we like to watch the boats going by and people fishing. In the evening, the scene is picture perfect, as the sun sets and the geese come to land on the water. Arendshorst is perfect for cycling, with excellent routes right outside the site - ask Michael (the owner) for a cycling map of the area. We cycled to Ommen for the market and a smoked eel festival (didn't eat the eels but had some delicious friets), which was a great day out. We also cycled to Vilsteren - the scenery on route is wonderful. Other notable days out were to Elburg, a lovely old town with a vibrant marina and some good places to eat. We also visited Giethoorn, the Venice of the Netherlands. It is a lovely place but we weren't quite prepared for the sheer number of tourists who were visiting and their lemming like antics as they charged along. Staff at Arendshorst speak very good English and as well as providing a folder full of places to visit when we booked in, they were also happy to advise about events happening in local towns. Site facilities at Arendshorst are excellent and kept immaculately clean, you do have to pay a small amount for showers but as the site fees are very reasonable it seems fair. Each pitch has water, waste and electrics, which meant very little fetching and carrying of water for dad! There is a small site shop selling the basics like milk eggs etc (and icecreams), you can also order delicious bread rolls which are cooked on site each morning. On our last day as we were packing up and couldn't be bothered to cook, Michael kindly provided us with frikandellen in buns and huge pieces of Dutch apple cake, delicious, and it kept us going for the journey to the ferry. So apart from the above, why should you visit Camping Resort de Arendshorst? Because it's a traditional campsite run by a lovely family who care about what they do and go to great lengths to make your stay enjoyable - we will definitely be back.
