Disappointing Visit

Uttoxeter Racecourse Club Campsite
Our first visit this year was certainly underwhelming. First impressions were concerning the unkempt look with the internal hedges needing attention and worst of all the hard standing pitches were really badly covered in weeds. Our pitch had left over litter embedded in the gravel as well. The facilities were clean and looked after but the wardens were conspicuous by their absence. It is usual on club sites to see them out and about looking around the site but this time no. We have always enjoyed coming to Uttoxeter for race meetings in the past but having experienced two nights this time we decided to cancel all our other bookings. We expected better and with site fees on the increase we would rather give our support to sites that actually appreciate visitors.

Long stop over

Uttoxeter Racecourse Club Campsite
Booked the site in the darkness of winter with the view of a stop over on the way to north Wales and not reading the small print at the time found it was a race meeting for the queen’s platinum weekend, with no admission on the day I had booked, I would of thought the system would of red flagged that date so remember to do your homework. Back to the site review make sure to enter through the third gate down Wood Lane, with all the race traffic you can lose your nerve when the track starts to get narrow and turn it to the stables turn which many did. I would suggest not to turn up before 1pm waiting space is at a premium and all you do is block the road up. Booking in was fine the wife said it was very friendly and helpful and remember the key for the showers and toilet which is under lock and key 24/7. The showers and toilet block reminded me of 70’s school toilets. We managed to find a pitch up against the race course rails but remember the track is watered with a certificated system so your car, van, awning and anything in its path will get wet. I would recommend putting large blocks under your legs the horses like good to soft ground but the caravan doesn’t. With the town a 15 min walk away by gate 2 and 20 min by the caravan site entrance its not bad and with Waitrose and Witherspoon on the way back for supplies it’s well situated, like most towns of the modern era it full estate agent’s and charity shops, but it’s worth a look. Any off to North Wales now hope that review helped

Stuck in the mud - no help from site staff.

Uttoxeter Racecourse Club Campsite
Club asks for honest reviews - here is mine. We pitched on grass. Very soft grass! One night only but came to move and we were stuck in the mud. No help from site staff as apparently none of the racecourse staff were around as bank holiday. Hmmmm. Not up to racecourse staff? Club staff should at least try and help?. We were told to call our own recovery service. Thanks! Also told off on arrival for not having membership card. Called club main CS office who said ‘nonsense’ they could easily look up our details online.

Our weekend retreat

Uttoxeter Racecourse Club Campsite
We stay here regularly as it is convenient and usually quiet and peaceful. Easy walk into town and also lovely to stroll around racecourse. Our most recent stay was superb . Cheryl and Dean had just arrived as the new wardens and they loved the site too. They were extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating. There was a balloon fest taking place and the weather was superb -we had excellent views of all the proceedings, At night it was magical when everything was lit up. We also had a ringside view of the fireworks. We love our stays here whether or not events are taking place.
