Why stay here ...

As the name suggests, Commons Wood Club Campsite backs onto delightful woodlands and is within reach of several beautiful parks. For those who fancy some excitement and limitless shopping options, the caravan park is only 30 minutes away from central London by a fast and frequent train service into King's Cross. Easy access to the city makes this Hertfordshire caravanning site an ideal base to visit any of London's popular exhibitions held at sites such as Olympia or Kew Gardens.

Commons Wood Club Campsite offers a wealth of options to keep everyone in the family happy. The lovely Stanborough Park is only about 2 miles away with a playground and crazy golf as well as a gorgeous lake where you can try your hand at boating and fishing. Reed Marsh Reserve - which is incorporated within Stanborough Park- is an ideal spot for bird watching. You can also explore several stately homes within the local area. The closest town to the caravan site is Welwyn Garden City, built soon after the First World War as part of the Ebenezer Howard's Garden City movement and one of the finest examples of modern town planning. Its rich history is evident in such artefacts as a Roman Bath preserved in a steel vault under the nearby A1.

First Visit

Commons Wood Club Campsite
We stayed at Commons Wood for the first time over the Easter break from 15-19 April. Very good site. Clean facilities good level and well maintained pitch. The wardens were lovely friendly and helpful. We ended up leaving later than the required exit time but as it was not busy it was fine with them. Would definitely recommend for a quiet peaceful break

Good location for London/Hertfordshire

Commons Wood Club Campsite
We arrived in bad weather in February so were probably not seeing the site at it's best. The positives were a very helpful and friendly welcome at Reception with advice on parking spots. Level pitch and not muddy given the weather. Very clean facilities. The ambiance is what let the site down for us, with caravan storage next door , a lot of very large RVs and what appeared to be longer term residents rather than people stopping over on holiday or passing through.

An excellent site

Commons Wood Club Campsite
This sight is a little gem and we have stored our caravans and motorhomes there since 1986. The wardens are exceptionally helpful and the cleanliness of the site and facilities are of a high standard. For those who do not store their outfits but choose to stay will find its location to London easy with the station a bus ride away. In addition there are a host of local attractions and places of interest to visit in Hertfordshire, the street market and Abbey Cathedral in St Albans being one not to miss and Hatfield House and estate another.

Xmas 2021

Commons Wood Club Campsite
Having read the many reviews we decided on balance to give this site a try,we spent 10 nights 23/12/21 to 2/1/22 on site, first i must say the wardens were very good we don`t go to the office much anywhere we stay as we don`t find much to complain about on sites but out and about on site they always smiled and spoke. I can see what the camper who said worst pitch ever ment and there are now 5no 1 ton bags of stone on this pitch ready for spreading i would not have been happy with this pitch but why was this not done sooner. I realise sites do not look their best in winter and i was told that in summer when the trees are in leaf it looks great. Addressing the issue of workers using this site i must say i agree it resembles at times a Travellers Site one person was on and off every day in a flatbed transit with plallets strapped to it,many pitches resembled seasonal pitches although there are none on this site ??. For dog walking this must be near the top of the list for sites with woods next to site, i think this site really is in need of a makeover, the almost full storage site next door must be bringing in a huge amount of money i was told the charge is £750 per van / motorhome / trailer per year with around 200 to 300 spacers you do the maths. i would suggest the many hunderds of thousands of pounds WASTED changing from Caravan Club to Caravan and Motorhome Club to be more " inclusive " !! could have been better spent. After all that said we had a quite and peaceful time but these are my thoughts,we may return in summer to see what it looks like then please come and see this site you may not agree.

Kind and helpful warden

Commons Wood Club Campsite
The warden went out of her way to help us move pitches even though site was almost full. I have difficulty walking and our pitch was in the far corner. Thank you so much she is a credit to the club.
