Why stay here ...

The pleasant Durham Grange Club Campsite is set on open, level grounds, conveniently placed just off the A1(M) and within easy reach of the pretty city of Durham. A short 3-mile drive from the caravan park will put you in the heart of the many attractions the city has on offer.

Dramatically set on its 70-foot rocky peninsula in a meandering bend of the River Wear, Durham is steeped in history and one of the most picturesque cities in the UK. Whether you fancy a wander to take in the sense of days gone by, or a bite to eat in the many local restaurants, the panoramic views from every vantage point make the city a holiday destination not to be missed. A visit to the World Heritage site of Durham Cathedral and Castle is a must. For a dose of fresh sea air, Seaham Beach is only a short drive away.

With on-site facilities including a kid's play area, and an indoor play area in nearby Newton Aycliffe to help keep little ones entertained, Durham Grange Club Campsite is a great choice for those with children. A public footpath runs from near the site through fields, leading down to a river and woodland. Other benefits of the site include a dog walk.

What a noisy site

Durham Grange Club Campsite
On arrival the site appeared to be well kept and organised. The warden was rather grumpy as we had arrived early. He told me I should read my emails before we arrived and take note of the arrival times. I said that it was confusing as I had received the said emails but my booking app showed contradictory information. Facilities were spotless and the information room well informed. The constant noise from the nearby a1 was too much. It was 24 hours. Impossible to have a relaxing meal or drink outside as the roar from the roads spoilt this. We booked for three nights but could only manage two as the noise was ridiculous. The second night there was someone using a stihl saw at 1.30 in the morning! Needless to say we had no sleep that night and we left one day early. The female in reception was most unhelpful and miserable when we asked her about local walks. Would definitely not return due to the road noise, miserable wardens and their passion to cut the grass at every opportunity.

The only site where washing on a rotary dryer on your pitch are regarded as a fire hazard!

Durham Grange Club Campsite
Easy access from the A1 as long as you don't miss the final small dull sign pointing to the site. Inevitably there's a constant roar day and night from the A1 traffic, but it didn't really bother us. Rather like a Camping and Caravanning Club site, unfortunately, with some pitches in a central grass field, which means rude people are constantly walking across your gravel pitch in order to access the facilities rather than walk on the grass between pitches. The site is well placed for Durham City centre and the Beamish Museum. Pernickety warden made a ridiculous complaint to us for leaving our washing on a camping rotary dryer on our pitch while we were out, claiming that it was a fire hazard!

Miserable Wardens

Durham Grange Club Campsite
Stayed here last week. Handy stop off on the A1. Good base for visiting the North East. Some of the wardens though are very miserable. We asked one of the female wardens where the nearest pub was, her reply ......No idea, I dont do pubs . What lovely warm person . Obviously in the wrong job !

Disappointing Location

Durham Grange Club Campsite
As expected nice facilities, clean, tidy and flat site. Very disappointing that so close to the A1, very noisy all day and stays noisy until very late at night. If you're driving from South to Scotland or vice versa then its a very convenient pull off. If you want to explore Durham then I'd find somewhere else to stay.
