Why stay here ...

Set in open countryside just outside York, York Beechwood Grange Club Campsite is beautifully screened from the world with trees and hedges. The caravan site is ideal for exploring the historic city or for discovering Yorkshire's many varied attractions further afield. It is also a great location for families in search of plenty of space for children to play and yet within close range of both modern conveniences and the pleasant surrounding natural landscapes.

York Beechwood Grange Club Campsite puts you within easy reach of local transport - Park 'n' Ride is available from Monks Cross, allowing you to visit a wide range of interesting locations. Monks Cross offers plenty of high street shops and a variety of places to eat and drink. Retail parks where you can shop 'til you drop are within easy reach too. The medieval streets of York offer an excellent opportunity to soak up the local history: just some of the attractions to visit are the Minster, National Railway Museum and the fascinating Jorvik Viking Centre. Other places within a short distance from the site and well worth the visit are Rievaulx Abbey, Ryedale's market towns, the famous Moors and of course the beauty of historic Bronte country. Travelling a little further afield, you can reach the popular coastal resort of Scarborough. For fabulous food shopping and delicious local produce head to Malton, known as Yorkshire's food capital. The town also hosts the annual Food Lovers Festival with cookery demonstrations, family entertainment, lots of food stalls and plenty more. Nearby to Malton, Flamingo Land has plenty to keep the kids entertained, including a theme park and plenty of wildlife. For a more leisurely outing, you can opt for a romantic cruise along the river Ouse.

Excellent Spotless Toilet Block.........but

York Beechwood Grange Club Campsite
Spent 3 nights at Beechwood Grange. Unfortunately upon booking in I and my wife sensed a degree of indifference to us the warden seemed just a little too regimented in approach, not what I would term as particularly welcoming. The charges I felt were a little on the heavy side especially considering lack of fully serviced pitches i.e no fresh water or grey waste facility on pitches. The toilet/shower block was excellent and spotlessly clean, the site in general appeared very well manitained. Due to the sites close proximity to paddocks and horses meant dog walking on the site approach was not allowed, however, the site did have an excellent dog walking field. The site appeared to be busy although I personally thought it overpriced, I happened to pass time of day with someone who had been on site for a week and they also mentioned they thought it was expensive. This is a good site but not as good as CAMC thinks it is. I feel there are friendlier better value sites in the area of equal quality. It is unlikely I would use this site again.

Lovely site with 1 drawback

York Beechwood Grange Club Campsite
This is a lovely site with immaculate facilities and helpful, friendly staff. The cleanliness of the toilet block could not be bettered and there seemed to be great detail to maintaining the landscaped areas. There is a small shop at reception selling a few essentials. The pitch was almost level for our motorhome, only needing a little levelling, and was very spacious. TV and 4G reception was good. There is an enclosed dog field which is a brilliant idea for allowing your dog to run off the lead. Having said all this I don’t think we’ll return to the site due to the rule concerning walking dogs off the site. This is not allowed due to issues with livestock and so a vehicle is needed to get your dog off site. Anyone with a motorhome will know that this isn’t really feasible. I asked a member of staff about this and he suggested getting a taxi!! The approach road is wide enough, in my opinion, to allow a responsible owner to walk a dog on a short lead to the site entrance. This is a real pity as the site is perfect in every other way. There is a site next door which looks great and has no such restrictions so I think we’ll use that when we have our dog with us.

Tourist visit

York Beechwood Grange Club Campsite
We were disappointed with this place. The staff are not particularly friendly comparing this with other sites. The atmosphere on the site is unfriendly also. We had a complaint about our dog barking at 7.30 am which was short lived as he was anxious to go out for his walk. He isn’t a very barking dog and this was very upsetting and spoilt our stay. It is impossible to access the park and ride without crossing several very roundabouts. Overall although the site is immaculate and the dog walking field is great we won’t come back here again.

Lovely site well kept and friendly wardens

York Beechwood Grange Club Campsite
Only one drawback to this site, and that is only relevant to MH users. There is a good 15 minute walk to the nearest bus, which is now run by Castle Line, the nearest stop being at the Toby Carvery the other side of the big junction, and these only run every couple of hours, the last bus back being late afternoon. However, this is the bus which also goes to Castle Howard so that's a bonus. You can cycle into York from here too, though we couldn't on this trip. There are dedicated motorhome spaces at the nearby shopping centre too, but we prefer to leave the van at the campsite. The campsite has done a deal with a local taxi for a fixed rate (could be two couples) for a taxi, which if you don't have a free bus pass, is not a bad deal. Otherwise a very nice site and would visit again.
