Why stay here ...

Set in ancient quarry works and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the Cambridge Cherry Hinton Club Campsite has been imaginatively landscaped to create the impression of being in the heart of the countryside while only a 25-minute bus journey to the city centre of beautiful Cambridge.

The caravan park gives you easy access to guided walking tours of the nearby medieval colleges where you can enjoy the academic atmosphere that makes the city famous. Wander along or take a punt on the River Cam to see colleges like Corpus Christi, Magdalene and the Bridge of Sighs. A visit to King's College Chapel is a must. If you're feeling a little lazy, open bus tours let you take in the full charm of the city while you relax. For those who like to cycle, the Cambridge Cherry Hinton Club Campsite offers good cycling paths from the site into and around Cambridge. Just opposite the site, you can enjoy a lovely walk around the nature reserve and old chalk pits. If you're feeling peckish, it's only a short stroll to the nearest pub and if you need to stock up on supplies, a supermarket can be found a little further down the road.

Charming Site

Cambridge Cherry Hinton Club Campsite
Stayed for 4 nights in June. A lovely site staffed by helpful and cheerful wardens, on the site of an old chalk pit. This helps with the charm as there different levels and areas within the site where the pitches are placed. Facilities were always clean and well kept. Only observation was that the pitches whilst mostly flat, were themselves a little untidy and unkempt, with bald patches of grass and hardstandings quite weedy and tatty. Having said that, everything else was ok. 2 pubs near to site (both had nice gardens for evening drinks), bus service (No 3) to Cambridge every 20m from a stop 10m walk away, Tesco Express in Cherry Hinton, plenty of takeaways that delivered, Tv signal ok, 4g signal ok and wifi good. Had a nice walk into Grantchester from Cambridge, and stopped at the Orchard tea rooms. Lovely setting, food and drink on the side of a high price. Also went to IWM Duxford with MH. If you are into aviation definitely worth a visit. Would I return, yes as the positives far outweigh the negative

Don’t dislike the site, just the prices.

Cambridge Cherry Hinton Club Campsite
We stay at this site for short visits regularly throughout the year due to it’s proximity to Addenbrookes Hospital. Although we live down on the Kent coast, I have a rare medical condition that is treated by various specialist clinics at Addenbrookes. The site is fine for our needs as there is the quarry over the road for the dog to have a run around (the dog walk on site is only really adequate for very small dogs), a couple of nearby pubs with beer gardens if the weather is nice and various takeaways nearby if we don’t feel like cooking. Of course the main reason most people visit is it’s proximity to Cambridge. The state of pitches and facilities which some describe as ‘tired’ may be so but are fine for our short visits. What we find hardest to swallow is the price of this site. We stayed for one night about a week ago and had to pay £37.80p for our van and 2 people. I have another appointment in July which will no doubt be a similar high price but also one in December when by some miracle the price has dropped to £26.20p for 2 people and the van per night. I don’t understand the justification for these variations in price throughout the year. The pitch is the same, the facilities are the same, if anything we will use more electricity in the winter as it’s dark earlier and cold yet it’s considerably cheaper than the summer. The only and obvious reason I can come up with is to grab as much money as they can at the times of year when most people want to be out and about then when it’s quiet they have to reduce or else they would be empty. I don’t have a problem with sites that accept non members doing this to them but as the rest of us pay an annual fee, I think this should be for us to be able to pay a reasonable price all year round. Nearly £40 per night for a square of grass, a few litres of water and a few £’s of electric is not in my opinion reasonable but we are unfortunately stuck with it. Add on the price of the fuel these days and suddenly what should be a cheap short break isn’t.

Don't go down a slope to a pitch

Cambridge Cherry Hinton Club Campsite
Nothing wrong with the site except we did not realise it wasnt on a level and we ended up going down a slope to a pitch where there was hardly any sun due to the trees and the depth of the area where we were. It was actually quite depressing seeing the sun above. Sorry but not for us as we like a bit of sun to sit out in

Very tired

Cambridge Cherry Hinton Club Campsite
The overall appearance and feel of this site is that it is tired and could you do with money spent on the pitches and surrounding areas. If CAMC continue to put the prices up without maintaining the pitches, then this will encourage people to use CL sites at half the cost! Based on many reviews it appears that as long as the site wardens are friendly then the site gets a 5 star rating, surely that should be a given, as that’s their job!
