Why stay here ...

Situated high above Exeter at the top of Haldon Hill, Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite is attractively surrounded by bright heather and gorse moorland. The location of the caravan park and campsite allows for superb views of the rolling countryside and an unparalleled feeling of space and calm.

For many, the first stop on their visit to the area will be historic Exeter and it's Cathedral Close, found at the very heart of the city. Excursions here offer the opportunity not only to absorb this famously historic site but also to indulge in a little shopping as well as a wide choice of restaurants. Visitors to the Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite seeking the best views Dartmoor has to offer will be delighted with a stroll up Haytor and Canonteign Falls, the highest in all of England. Also nearby is Haldon Forest Park with a range of walking, cycling and mountain bike trails as well as a Go Ape course for the adventurous. The campsite also gives you easy access to scenic walks along the River Exe to the Quay. A car boot sale is held down at the racecourse every Sunday, so head down for a weekend bargain.

Even though the site is often used as a quick stop over, many members often enjoy it so much, they extend their bookings and take in the excitement of the stay for longer!

Great site with many improvements with the new management

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
We only stay here for single nights when in transit as the location is perfect for us and we don't live far away.. We used to have some niggles and, in particular, the drive over facility for MH grey waste was a nightmare to get to when others were around as it was just in the wrong place. The new managers are really lovely people and have made a number of improvements including a brand new, easily accessible, drive over facility. We would recommend this site for longer stays as there is great access to many activities nearby as well. We are aiming to attend during a race meeting because, by all accounts, it is a lot of fun.

Stopover only

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
We stopped over on route elsewhere and were glad we hadn’t booked longer. The positives are access to the site is great, the wash block is warm and very clean, pitches level and there’s a shop on site. The negatives are there’s not really anything to do nearby so you need to drive to get anywhere, there’s no views to speak of and the site seemed a bit soulless. In summary and from a motorhome perspective, a good stopover but not really suitable for a longer stay if you like to just park up and walk/cycle to stuff nearby

Excellent Exeter

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
Just back from our first trip away this year, what bliss with unexpectedly good weather for March. The site is clean and tidy and extremely well managed. The facilities are all working and scrupulously clean. The new wardens for this year are warm and welcoming, friendly and very efficient, they are both delightful. An excellent site for those with dogs, you are allowed to walk the course and easy access into Harcombe Woods.

Not up to Caravan Club Standards

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
We stayed on this site in July for 3 weeks. When we arrived it had been raining and the campsite looked dishevelled. We managed to find a pitch which was close to Grundy bins and a service point. This was to be our downfall as the large bins were only emptied once a week and soon the rubbish was overflowing and the stench was disgusting. I couldn’t open the caravan windows as the temperatures soared. The service point was regularly used but other rude people walk close to your pitch to access it. The wardens were not bothered by my complaints and everything was the responsibility of the Race course. At the end of the day my contract is with the Caravan Club not the Race Course. The roads were full of potholes and badly lit in the evening. Very difficult to pitch an awning as there was rock just below the grass. A relief warden was breaking down cardboard in the recycling Grundy bin one day and he was such a scruffy man that another camper asked if he was looking for his bed for the night. The warden didn’t even smile. One day the same warden was trying to put another pitch in between my unit and the service point. I wasn’t impressed. Glad that he changed his mind. The Caravan Club band arrived as did more rubbish and the relief wardens were not proactive but reactive and managed to find some small bins for the extra rubbish. Will never ever recommend this site and would not choose to use it ever again.

The Webb's On Tour

Exeter Racecourse Club Campsite
Excellent site. The wardens Avril and Mark keep an immaculate site, credit to them. Toilet and shower block including disabled are spotlessly clean, as is the pot washing area. The grass is very well maintained. Peaceful site to stay on. Central location for driving off for the day. Nice 2 mile walk around the racecourse, level underfoot, suitable for anyone not steady on their feet. We will return.
