Why stay here ...

Wagtail Country Park is situated in the peaceful and tranquil Lincolnshire countryside, with breath taking views and amazing sunsets. There are many local tourist attractions in the area including Belton House and Belvoir Castle which are both within a short drive. Together with the Cathedral City of Lincoln and the historic towns of Grantham and Newark, Wagtail Country Park has something to offer for everyone and is open all year round. This pretty site has achieved a David Bellamy Gold award and there is an abundance of wildlife and local countryside walks; you will see deer, hares, rabbits, owls, woodpecker, kingfisher and many varieties of birds including the Wagtail. The park also has two well stocked fishing lakes with a mixture of rudd, tench, roach, carp barble and more. The site has large hard standing pitches, all 10 metres x 10 metres with 16amp electric hook up and screened with shrubs and borders for added privacy, thus creating a spacious feeling. Two shower blocks, one with wet rooms available. Beauty room on site. Dogs are very welcome and will enjoy local nearby walks in the beautiful countryside, and shorter wildlife walks on site around our circular perimeter. Changes need to be made!!

Wagtail Country Park
We recently stayed at the site & although a nice one, we were extremely disappointed with several things: Loud music was played at the on-site pub. This was obviously someone’s party as a Ferrari was allowed to enter the site in order to pick up (we can only assume residents who live on the site) & take them to the on-site pub! - a mere 50 meters in one case. The Ferrari driver then continued to drive around the site, revving the engine & the security barrier to the site had been raised obviously by someone working &/or living on the site) & the barrier remained open for a long period of time. NOT ACCEPTABLE! This was a security breach. Those living &/or working on the site did NOT adhere to the 5mph speed limit at any time. In fact, far exceeding this. No rules were followed at all. The water in the wet rooms was also scalding hot in fact o a dangerous level!!! If this is a CAMC Affiliated site, surely it should follow the strict rules as set out by the CAMC?! Mmm…

Peaceful rural retreat.

Wagtail Country Park
My wife and I spent five nights at Wagtail Country Park in March and enjoyed exceptionally warm and sunny weather that showed the site off to its best. It is very well laid out and our large pitch overlooking the fishing lake was excellent with spring flowers and hedges dividing each pitch. We were using our own facilities for the most part however the two toilet blocks are modern and kept spotlessly clean. The only downside is the final approach road which although tarmac, is narrow with potholes and broken edges in places requiring great care. That said we negotiated those carefully and were fortunate not to meet other large units when arriving or departing. The site is conveniently located for visiting Belton House and Belvoir Castle with the city of Lincoln only 24 miles distant. We are happy to recommend this peaceful, pretty site and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Very nice site, super staff, large pitches, not ideal for dogs

Wagtail Country Park
Firstly the staff are excellent, the site is well maintained, the pitches are large and overall very quiet. Ideal for a stopover of if you want to fish/attend the evening entertainment in the pop-up bar. However, dog facilities are very limited - there is a dog 'walk' on site (about 200m of green path) but it is not enclosed and so all dogs must remain on leads - not ideal, and I would have thought it would be relatively easy to enclose?. Local walks are mainly on the road for the first 15 minutes (although we did find an unlisted farm track about 5 mins away on day 2). We walked to the local pub for a drink but they were unable to offer us food as 'they were fully booked' even though there was almost more staff than customers when we arrived! In summary - excellent staff, great pitches but not ideal for us.

Pleasant short stay

Wagtail Country Park
As the title said we enjoyed a pleasant stay for a couple of nights in February. Booking was easy and we paid on arrival. The approach roads are not the best in the world. Church Lane is just about wide enough with care for normal sized, width wise, vehicles to pass but it does roll a bit and any caravan will "yaw". The turning into Cliff Road is straightforward but the surface of this lead-in road is degraded in places and only has a couple of passing places in the half a mile to the site entrance. Take care with some of the potholes. These really should be fixed. Apart from those minor gripes everything else about the site was excellent. The pitches are bigger than your average CAMC site and set out in a nice pattern. If you fish and want a lakeside pitch then ask when booking. We used the clean and warm shower block, there are two of them. I understand that there is entertainment in a building at the far end of the site at weekends but we stopped outside of this period. If you want to stay away from the noise then pitch nearer the reception area. I have marked the family section down a tad as I couldn't see anything around the lakes to prevent toddlers falling in. There is a dog walk around the back of the site and the lanes are quiet. The site is great for access off the A1 but there is very little road noise from it. It's handy for Grantham town where there are various supermarkets, shops and pubs, plus Grantham Caravans if needs must. Trips can be made to Belton House, Belvoir Castle and Easton Walled Garden without travelling too far. We would use the site again, especially in winter when hardstandings needed, and these were excellent.

One night stop over

Wagtail Country Park
Lovely clean and tidy site. Great location, ideal just off the A1. Easy to book, good pre-trip communication. Friendly welcome from wardens on arrival. Will definitely recommend and use again.
