Thoroughly average....

Royal Vale Caravan Park
This was our first visit to Royal Vale and sad to say it did not live up to the description in the club handbook or the sites own website. The photography on the website is very creative and cleverly disguises the small size of the majority of pitches on site. If you are planning to erect an awning, even a small one, then it is unlikely you will have space on your pitch for your car. Given that the grass areas were very wet during our stay it meant that mud got tramped into the caravan. We advised our expected late (after 5pm) arrival and were left a welcome pack with all the information we needed. Did not see any site staff throughout our stay. The facilities were adequate without being spectacular. There is plenty to do in the area and I would particularly recommend Jodrell Bank and the Anderton Boat Lift. Overall our 3 night stay was a bit of a disappointment and did not live up the expectations created by the site's publicity. It is unlikely that we will return and are more likely to look for a CL site if we return to the area.

Very Impresed first time

Royal Vale Caravan Park
Stayed for one night during our regular 'commute' from Scotland. We advised late arrival when we booked and were impressed to receive a very friendly courtesy call on the day, to confirm our arrival time and sort access arrangements. Everything was as arranged. Access was easy via secure barrier. The pitch was easy to locate from the very good supplied site map. The pitch was level hardstanding with a freshwater upstand, grey water drain (good size) and electricity. The facilities were perfectly adequate and clean. To my eye they were quite up to date and may have had a refurb. We did not use the showers but others clearly had. For a very cold night in March, they were on the slightly nippy side, but not cold. I suspect that the very high roofline is the cause. Putting in an insulated drop ceiling would have these facilities toasty. They were heated. I would say that the turn-ins to the pitches where we were placed are tight. Not impossible by any means but if you are new to towing a rig or a bit unsure about reverse manoeuvring, better to arrive in daylight as you will have some to-ing and fro-ing. We were in a campervan so it was just like a '3 point turn' for us. I wouldn't be put off by this aspect, just be aware. Any road noise is in the distance and intermittent. We were not consciously aware of it and it certainly was not intrusive. The site was occupied by quite a few people but given the 'monsoon' conditions, sadly we didn't have opportunity to talk to anyone else. The entire site was clean, tidy and well kept. It is happily an adult only site so the compulsion to add a rating for families is frankly nuts. Hence the non-applicable 1 star. Ignore it. I would recommend this site without hesitation and plan to return.

Peaceful good for stopover

Royal Vale Caravan Park
Quiet and peaceful on our stay. Ideal stopover on return from Scotland. Facilities all clean and tidy and although pitches seem small, many had enough space to put up awnings. Most pitches are a concrete base with gravel space/pitch to the side and further grass space between the gravel and the neighbouring concrete base. Hedges between rows of pitches provide some privacy. The only issue is that I was not aware made aware (ahead of our visit) of the "green fluid only" chemical disposal point. Not a problem for one night, just a small inconvenience, but people staying longer could be worse off.

Very disappointing

Royal Vale Caravan Park
Not impressed with this site at all... It appears they have awarded themselves five stars rather than it being a reality. First the positives: The reception area is nice and the lady in there is helpful and friendly. The toilet and shower block is clean and modern. The security barriers both in and out of the site are effective and provide good security. The negatves: The pitches are very small and although many pitches are advertised as hard standing many pitches are situated on grass where there is insufficient room to erect an awning. The advertised walks off the site are non existant as the walk to the pub around half an hour away is via a muddy field which has been churned up by a tractor. There is no footpath to walk on to reach anywhere so using your car is the only option. The access to the site is via a pot holed unmade road. The maintenance of the so called superpitch was poor, the drain away was extremely smelly and the tap leaked. The maintenance man spent several hours trying to fix the tap on the last day we were there and seemed unable to do so, resulting in a major water leak from the tap directly next to our awning. I cannot recommend this site in any way and both my wife and I were very disappointed in our weeks stay here.

Very noisy!!

Royal Vale Caravan Park
We stayed on this site for one night only, the assistant showed me where our pitch was located and I voiced concerns then to her that we were very close to the main road, she discounted my concern by saying there was a large hedge behind us and we would be a long way from the road with no noise. Well the road noise was horrendous but worse than that it became obvious to us that there seemed to be construction workers living the other side of the hedge complete with several dogs which whined, howled and barked throughout the night. We made an early morning escape and can honestly say this was the worst site we've ever stayed on for noise! On the plus side the facilities were spotless.......
