Why stay here ...

Imaginatively landscaped, the campsite is set within 63 acres of beautiful National Trust woodland. With pitches grouped in open glades and easy access to the fun attractions of Coniston Water, the site offers a scenic, peaceful base for an active holiday that will keep the whole family happy, including its own mini adventure playground for children. Additional activities within the area include cycling, rock climbing, guided pony treks around the fells and much more.

The close proximity of Coniston Park Coppice Club Campsite to Coniston Water is a great bonus, for a short walk of 400 yards brings you to the lakeside launching point where you can enjoy watching or try your hand at a range of water sports such as dinghy sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. Coniston Pier, only 1.5 mile away, offers steamboat rides on the Coniston Gondola and boat hire. Several cafes and pubs serving good food are located in the village 1 mile away.

The caravan site is an excellently placed central point for exploring the whole National Park, with its dramatic combination of Lakeland and soaring fells. Needless to say, the walking is matchless and you have a good range of paths to keep you on the go. Birdwatchers will not be disappointed - expect to have your binoculars in constant use, especially in Grizedale Forest.

Great Location But Some Things to Consider

Coniston Park Coppice Club Campsite
Firstly the last 8-9 miles to the site are very narrow roads with not many passing points so the time you arrive is a key consideration. You can access from 10.00 so would be worth getting there early and leaving early (we left at 8) to miss the motorhomes and caravans coming the other way. The site is very confusing with very little signage, so it is worth looking around to find the pitch that suits you but there are a lot of large pitches and various angles etc. You also need decent ramps as there is some large slopes on some of the pitches. Once you have done all the above it is a great location, the lake is very close and is stunning, there are lots of great walks from the site and you can vary them so that they are not the same. Coniston is a lovely little town with lots of pubs and shops and is about a 20 minute walk away. One thing that was a little irritating is that you can walk around the whole lake as there are private houses that back onto it , the council clearly bottled it on these homes! There is a fish and chip and pizza van 4 nights a week (alternatively) the food is good but I thought the Pizza was a little dear. The wardens were very helpful and the toilets and showers were spotless, I would have no issue coming back here as the location is lovely.

Disappointed

Coniston Park Coppice Club Campsite
Very disappointed with this site. CAMC clearly need to invest in this site. The approach road description is misleading. It is really narrow MOST of the way with very few passing places so not for the faint hearted! The wardens were fab and toilets etc as expected but the pitches were awful. They clearly need upgrading!!! Lack of stone on pitch plus tree shadow everywhere making even a dry period look damp. Hard to work out where to pitch with outfits facing all directions so don’t be surprised if somebody deckchairs, bbq, wind break or washing line very close to your pitch! Very hilly site so expect a hike to toilets from some pitches. Coniston is lovely but at least 45 min walk at pace thro the adjacent campsite which was full of tents kids and barking dogs. At least 2 miles each way so not for faint hearted. Site is not motorhome friendly unless u can walk that distance as taking your outfit out is not easy due to surrounding roads. To say we were disappointed is an understatement! Only stayed two nights and so glad that was what we had booked as would have left early. Hubby wanted to move on as soon as he saw pitches. Would never go back as lots more lovely sites in the area which meet our needs as late fifties motorhomers far better.

Nice site good location.

Coniston Park Coppice Club Campsite
The Coppice Club site.... is a big nice site, toilets are spotless cleaned and warm. You will need leveling blocks as most of the pitches are not very level and you will need good hard pitch pegs. This not a criticism as the site is rustic and very overgrown with a very large majority of the pitches completely under trees so you won't see the sun at any point in the day. Other pitches are part open with some sun. The wooded areas are very dence but there are many views from the site a short walk once you are out of the woods with fantastic lakes view's. The vegetation really needs to be managed as this is a endless task for Club and could do with some investment. We had a fantastic holiday non the less.

Disappointed

Coniston Park Coppice Club Campsite
Been on wooded sites before, but this one was disappointing, hard to distinguish pitches because of the undergrowth, we are all in favour of areas being left for wildlife, but don’t expect to pitch amongst it. The pitches are very haphazard and it’s a bit of a free for all, most guests doing their own thing. The 10am arrivals is ridiculous with people going round site in vehicles looking to see who’s leaving, placing objects on pitches and parking up until vacated, we saw this twice where we were, putting people under pressure to pack up, why is this site not 1pm like others. The approach roads are a nightmare although followed directions in book care must be taken !! Never saw any staff doing any groundwork although a lot of areas could be strimmed and weeding done, been a member for 30 yrs, the quality of members has deteriorated, not liked it used to be. On booking in the member of staff was on the phone, and I stood for a good 5-10 mins before being acknowledged, although voices in the back, nobody came out, I picked up my paper work off table and was told some was for children, and I had none with me, so put it back. The only time we saw any staff was toilet cleaning, and bin emptying, why does this site need so many ? On a lighter note, the walk down to the lake was lovely anyone into water sports will enjoy, and the birdsong is beautiful. Sorry won’t be back, this site needs a lot of work, or staff willing to get their finger out instead of chatting in the office.

Ideal for walks from the site to Coniston and Torver

Coniston Park Coppice Club Campsite
Love Coniston Park Coppice CAMC site - a new favourite! Although in a wood, there are lots of pitches in the open. Pitches come in all sizes from tiny to massive and there is a lot of flexibility over how you park your unit. We found a sunny spot near the bottom playground on a massive pitch which was great for our 8m+ van. Wardens were great , as we have always found them to be. There is a little shop for essentials. Great walks from the site and a short walk into Coniston( which has shops, pubs cafes, car parks, tourist information), either through fields by the lake or inland along the old railway line. Coniston is a lovely village. Can thoroughly recommend two cafes ( our requirements are : dog friendly, gluten free options and good coffee/ food): the Bluebird on the waterfront (for location)and in the village : The Herdwick You can also walk along the old railway line ( from the top of the site near the road)or by the lake in the opposite direction to Torver where there is a pub and another gem of a cafe: Undercrag which is the studio/ gallery of a local artist and Thursday to Sunday a fabulous vegetarian cafe. It is very out of the way. A short walk on from the pub but very worth the effort and is frequented by many locals. Had a lovely walk to the Coppermines valley from Coniston village. We also drove to Lake Windermere where we visited NT Wray castle ( great cafe) and NT Claife viewing station. Then we drove to Ambleside for a wander and had a great lunch ( GF & Dog friendly) at Mr H Tearoom. Can recommend the Coniston Inn just the other side of the village and on the lake shore. Lovely and spacious inside with great food. Also dog friendly. We only discovered it on our last evening but would have returned if we had longer there.
