We wouldn't go back

The site was very quiet whilst we were there but we weren't warned that some pitches were subject to really unpleasant windy conditions. The chemical toilet was actually the worst we've seen in the UK with no real segregation with the grey water point and no running water actually at the emptying point. Not what we expected from a site with the club logo on

we had a serviced pitch which was nice, big pitch sizes, nice dog walk, phoned for indian takeaway and came to the site. that was the good side, the bad side of this site is seen dogs just running about shitting all over the place, was talking to a man across from me, he said it was like that the last time ( last month ) he was here too. people walking past, right next to your van door, going to the dog walk, the caravan next to me put there wind breakers up to stop people doing the same to them.sorry not for me. poor, very poor.

Won’t be back

We booked in for three nights as part of a Spring Break in Southern Scotland. Oh dear the toilets and showers did not seem to have been cleaned during the time we were there. The waste bin in the gents was not emptied for 36hours with no paper towels and a hand dryer not working. The large bin in the ladies was not emptied at all and the floor remained dirty. We decided this wasn’t satisfactory and decided to leave early. Will not be back again.

Our first visit to this site

This is a rural site and views to the east and south are far reaching and fabulous. You will therefore expect wind in quantity as a result. This members only affiliated site has many static vans and seasonal tourers on pitches. The site roads are mainly to gravel and recycling and other site facilitate not quite as good as, for example, Craigie Gardens. However there is an indoor pool for £3/£2 adults/children and a sauna for £8. Everything here is easygoing. There is a lack of notices usually prevalent throughout club sites, the loo block was lovely and warm. The showers are push button and we're fine for me. Only two of the four mens' showers had a fold down seat to put things on. But hardly anybody seemed to use the block. There were two drone flyers on site when we were there, and one drone was being flown at child head height very close to interested children. Some children were still out and about gone 11pm. Some members have difficulty understanding 5 mph and the one way system signs. Some members could not understand the rule of one car per pitch. We loved the easy pricing structure here, one price for the whole year. Compare that with other club sites and their complex and variable system of charges. Now a heads up about Wifi. Reading the Club Handbook it is clear that there is Wifi here. What is not clear is that the system used is not the Club one. So my annual subscription does not apply to this site and an additional charge would be levied for this private system, which for comparison of the fee for a whole year is three times as much. The Club should use the symbol with a pound sign beside it showing that an additional charge is made so members know in advance. This site is very handy for Culzean Castle and Rabbie Burns etc. Maybole is nothing to write home about but the Chippy was nice and the Spar serves for emergency supplies, otherwise it is Ayr for a large supermarket. We loved the food at the Souter Inn in Kirkoswald. This site is Worth a visit, but weekdays outwith school holidays makes for a quiet stay.

Our few days at the Ranch

we stayed at the ranch for three nights in early August - weather and views were good till the morning we left, so it was good to experience the wind and the rain too. The site for tourers is open with great views and we didn't need to fetch water all the time. The facilities for youngsters in our grandson's view were FAB, A play area, a football pitch and the pool. The staff were very welcoming helpful and interested in their customers. There are a lot of static units, there are some tight pitches but plenty for a family to do. As others have reported there are very good beaches around, not much in Maybole, but try out the paly area on Ayr beach too....FAB

Quiet, clean and a short walk into town ...

We stayed here for 6 nights for the first week in August and the weather was appalling. However I will not consider that in my review as the management can't be blamed for that. The site has tourers and static caravans and appears to cater more for statics. Our pitch was on the far side of the site and it was quite open and barren. Some sites do have hedges to separate them. In the bad weather our hard standing pitch flooded and this came through the groundsheet.  There is a playground on site for kids and our kids enjoyed it. Overall this site was OK but six days was too long. Ayr was OK but not inspiring. Toilets and showers were kept clean and showers were hot and powerful. If you drive from the site to Ayr do not turn right out of the site and use the main road. Turn left and take the first right (signposted Ayr) and this will take you on a beautiful coastal route. We took our 14 year old son and other friends came too. The swimming pool was open 08:30 to 12:30 and 17:00 to 21:00. Kids were not allowed 19:00 to 21:00 and this was fine. The kids loved the pool (although not big) and this was a god send in poor weather. There is a dog walk on site which is fine and useful and the site is well kept throughout. The owners were always smiling and polite but reception seemed to be closed more than it was open. The main beach at Maidens is a five and a half mile drive or there is a nearer one about three and a half miles away. Both very good. We like a local pub and Maybole about a mile away and we looked for a good pub. The best was the Maybole Arms with cheap and cheerful food on offer and very friendly staff and locals. Other pubs seemed to be more for locals. I was not impressed with Maybole itself and it was very average but did have local shops, take aways.  OK for a stopover but use your days better further north.  Hope this has been useful.

Excellent as always

We have just spent another great weekend at this site. The Ranch is one of our regular haunts and is a credit to its owners who are always friendly and helpful. The site is well laid out with a good sized touring area offering great views over the surrounding countryside. The toilet block is very modern and is always kept clean and tidy, there is a good sized play area for kids and the on site swiming pool is very handy. There is plenty for people to do in the local area such as visit Culzean castle Burns country, Port Patrick etc. Looking forward to our next visit

Nice Site, BUT....

This is a nice little site, part of a static caravan park (which is still growing) but I feel that they have tried to squeeze too many tourers in. To get in as many as possible, they appear to have made the pitches longer than usual. They are all hardstanding, which is great, but you can only have caravan/awning (with car stuck on the end of the pitch) or car/caravan side by side. The views down the valley from the site is excellent and each pitch has its own water tap which is unusual. For kids there's a great play area and there is also a swimming pool and leisure centre to keep them amused on wet days. Dog owners may feel a little short changed as the dog walking area is a strip of grass about 120 by 10 yards so not much use if you have an active mutt. Still, Culzean Bay is only a 4 mile drive away with great sand for the dogs to run free. The toilets onsite are very clean and spacious with subdued lighting and piped music. But, they are spoiled for me, as they have my all-time, personal, pet hate - push-button showers! Only 20 seconds between pushes and no control over the temperature. There are no shower curtains and only 2 of the 4 cubicles had hooks/seats inside. On the other 2, you had to use a hook outside the door. Not handy at all. With Ayr, Craigie Gardens site only 10 miles up the road, I'm afraid this is one site I'll not be re-visiting.
