Rather disappointed

We chose this site because we wanted to visit the general area which is very attractive and this site is located on the edge of the village of Newcastleton with off road walks for the dog nearby. We were also influenced by very good reviews for the site but we felt the site in general and our pitch in particular ( 15A ) left quite a lot to be desired. Contrary to other reviewers, I did not think the pitches were well spaced out and ours was quite crammed. As it’s number implies, it appeared to have been squeezed inbetween two other pitches to increase the site’s capacity ( something which seemed as if it might have been done elsewhere on the site ). The ‘squeezing in’ of extra pitches affects the electricity supply. Ours went off at 6am on the first morning whilst my wife was using her hairdryer. This has happened before on sites with low amps and can be easily rectified by flicking the trip switch back up in the electricity box supplying the site. However, the box next to our site could not be opened - it was locked. The warden’s office did not open until 9am and although the site information sheet included an out-of-hours telephone number, we could not get a phone signal anywhere on the site so that was no use. In the end I managed, with brute force, to prise open the door of the electricity box sufficiently to reach the trip switch and re-set it but the episode left me distinctly unimpressed. When I reported the matter to the warden, she said there is only a 10 amp supply to our pitch which I told her people should be made aware of before they are given the site. Anyway, I would advise anybody visiting the site to avoid pitch 15A. On the plus side, the site is well maintained and is certainly a convenient location on the edge of the village although the village’s facilities are a bit basic. There are also good walks direct from the site into woodland although the path from the middle of the site goes up some steep steps and then requires a scramble up a very steep and sometimes slippery slope to reach the main woodland path. My wife could not make it up the slope and I think others would also struggle. There is an alternative path at the northern end of the site and which also leads down the river where there is a bridge leading to other walks on the other side of the river.

Very pretty and well laid out grassy site with hardstanding

Very pretty and well laid out grassy site with hardstanding, ponds and views of lovely hillsides and woods. Amazing rookery in nearest ridge of trees, and get a rook "murmuration" in evening. Small Spar minimarket in town, plus 2 cafés, 2 pubs/hotels for evening meals. Great walks along the Liddel river, and old railway, plus out onto the moors to the superb Blackburn Falls. Lovely drive down Liddesdale form the north.

lovely place

Stayed for 4 nights from the 19th Sept. The site is very nicely laid out, and is very well kept. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The facilities are excellent and were always very clean. The village is only a short walk from the site, and has all the essentials that you might need for a short stay. We can recommend the Olive Tree café in the village. The coffee, cakes and ice-cream are very good and the service is friendly and efficient. There are plenty of easily accessible walking and cycling routes direct from the site suitable for all levels of ability. The site reception sell a local walking guide for £2.00, which is well worth buying. Definitely deserving of another visit sometime in the future :-)

Fab site marred by noisy building work, and barking dogs...

Stayed here twice before, and had really good experiences, but this one was marred by noisy builders. You are allocated a pitch, and on arrival, after paying, was told, 'we've got a really good pitch for you!'. And it was, overlooking the pond, but what we weren't told, was that a few yards away, over the boundary fence, builders were putting in drains. We arrived during their lunch break, so were unaware, until the mechanical diggers started up. This continued all week. The owners also need to get to grips with noisy dogs. On a pitch near us, every time someone walked past, the dog went berserk. After a child started crying, a lady had a row with the owner, who said; 'he only does it when someone walks past.' So, apparently, the answer is not to walk past the pitch, rather than the owner control their pet.

First Time at Lidalia

Stayed at Lidalia Site for 8 nights June 2020. Pretty site, kept very tidy and looked very nice. Route / access to the site is very easy and the welcome from the wardens good. Upon arrival we were allocated pitch 30 owing to the site being full (backing onto houses). Best pitches are around the ponds and the opposite side of the caravan site. Paid £10 for site wifi – very slow! - After reading positive reviews we booked our first nights meal at The Grape Hotel at 6.30pm (Wed), dining room was empty and meals basic but okay, with regards to the local butchers in Newcastleton, whilst okay it only offered basic meats – no marinated Barbie foods. Nearest large supermarket is in Hawick some 21 miles away / 40 minute drive – SPAR shop in Newcastleton only small – There are lots of positives for the area, Kielder Forest Park and Lake stunning with lots of walks & cycle routes, Lockmaben 18 hole Golf Club was an excellent championship course

Excellent site - loved our stay at Lidalia

We have just spent ten nights at this fantastic site 27.08.20 - 06.09.20. What a hidden gem right in the heart of a friendly small village. The family owners and wardens were absolutely lovely, so friendly and helpful. The facilities are immaculate, pitches spacious and the whole site was beautifully landscaped and well kept. The village has everything you need, a couple of pubs, shops and a fab butchers. Loads of great walks, no need to drive anywhere. We didnt take our bikes but there are some great bike rides around the area. Very dog friendly. You must visit the butchers (we bought loads of meat home with us to freeze!) Highly recommend the Grapes - they did takeaway food which was amazing (especially the chicken stuffed with haggis - wow!) Thanks to all at Lidalia for making our holiday so memorable - we will see you again soon :)

Gem of a site

Stayed here for six nights 11-17th August, on the final leg of our Scotland tour, what a great site this is. A good location in a nice village, local shops for all the necessities with a couple of pubs all just a short walk away, and a decent walks along the river. The site itself is perfectly maintained, nice displays dotted all around site. The shower and toilet facilities are some of the best we have seen in over 30 years of touring. The wardens are very approachable, helpful and always around should you need something. Would highly recommend this site and if we are coming this way again will definitely come back.

Lovely site

We stayed here at the beginning of our tour of Scotland. It’s a lovely site, nicely landscaped with walks directly from the site. Very quiet. Just a few minutes walk into the village where the locals are very friendly. We ate at the Grapes on the first night and had a very good meal there.
