One of Britains most fascinating museum experiences. The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle was founded by Josephine Bowes ...
View and BookViewforth Meadow is situated amongst farmland on the outskirts of Barnard Castle, positioned on a hill overlooking the town with spectacular views across Teesdale and the North Pennines.
The site is in a large gently sloping field with a recently planted wooded area and a spacious open area for relaxing and enjoying the peace.
Each south-facing grass pitch is separated by trees and shrubs and is spacious enough for an awning, ready for you to enjoy the wonderful views and beautiful sunsets. We advise you to use awning straps if the weather is blustery.
Pitches have electric hook-up points.
Watch out for the resident barn owl, there are also curlews, buzzards and woodpeckers. We have our own hens on site and the fact that we are surrounded by our neighbours’ sheep and horses, we will accept dogs only by arrangement. On site dogs must on a lead at all times.
Viewforth Meadow is ideally based for making the most of such a beautiful area catering for many outdoor recreation activities including walking, golf, cycle routes, sailing, canoeing and mountain biking at Hamsterley Forest which is only 9 miles away.
Barnard Castle offers a range of restaurants, pubs and takeaways, as well as a weekly market, various supermarkets, independent shops and antique shops. Not forgetting Specsavers for those with poor eye sight!!
Places definitely worth a visit include the Castle, Egglestone Abbey, Egglestone Gardens and tearoom, Bowes museum, High and Low Force and Raby Castle.
A local bus passes the entrance to the CL.
If you wish to travel further afield, Richmond, Durham, Beamish Museum, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales are all within an hour’s drive.
Price per night inclusive of electricity.
Please leave the site by noon on the day of departure.
We do not offer car charging facilities on site, but there are several locally.
