Why stay here ...

Visit Wiltshire offer a map and guide and lots of information on things to see and do for visitors to Salisbury, from beautiful scenery to a variety of activities, there is something for everyone. City parking is available but the easiest way into town is to use the Salisbury Park & Rides. These have an eight foot height limit, but over-height vehicles may park at the Britford site.

Salisbury Hillside Club Campsite is set amidst rolling countryside, much of which is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The perfect place for a relaxing holiday, this rural, secluded campsite is just 9 miles from Salisbury in one direction and Andover in the other. This holiday getaway location is spread across several levels, giving you the choice of pitches set in open woodland glades, with local wildlife on your doorstep. The caravan park offers excellent outdoor activities nearby - a short drive away you can leisurely take in scenery walking the Test Way and Clarendon Way or bike the Downs along charming countryside cycle ways.

Interesting places to visit during your caravanning trip to Wiltshire include the Army Flying Museum or one of the several lovely National Trust properties in the near vicinity, including Mottisfont House and Broadlands at Romsey. The area of Wiltshire itself is steeped in rich history and includes the World Heritage Site at Stonehenge. Other day trips that could be enjoyed from the site include the New Forest National Park with its wild ponies, the bustling south coast resort of Bournemouth, castles, plus a variety of woodlands and beaches. The caravan site is also a favourite stopover for a night or two whilst en-route to the Isle of Wight, the West Country or even France and Europe.

Superb small site, ideal for enjoying peace and quiet

Salisbury Hillside Club Campsite
We stayed on this site to break a long journey from Kent to Devon. Check in was was quick and easy and available pitch locations were clearly explained to us and marked on the site map. Facilities were spotless and the site in excellent condition. Pitches were mostly grass but some hard standing were available.....presume these were for motorhomes or twin axle caravans. Site layout was interesting with an access road spiralling down a hill and back again to the entrance. Pitches were a decent size although visitors should make sure that they have levelling ramps and/or some wooden blocks on board. We loved the peace and quiet of the site and the site wardens were superb. Helpful, full of ideas and always cheerful. A credit to the CAMC club.

Whilst there was not complains about the site, the toilets and showers were clean and well maintained. They could be a fair uphill walk if you had one of the distant pitches. Unfortunately the stay was spoilt by the morose attitude and borderline rude means of address of the male warden. Shame really - it costs nothing to be pleasant or polite. I would not recommend this site for children as there are no facilities for them.

Walking?

Salisbury Hillside Club Campsite
Wardens welcoming and no complaints about facilities. However, we found the site dark and facilities would be quite a long way from some pitches at the bottom of the site. Walking is definitely not possible as there’s a very busy road at the entrance, and the only walk of half a mile along the side of the site, ends with another road, neither of which you’d want to walk along. A lot of the land appears to belong to the army with no accessible footpaths or bridleways. We did have a day in Salisbury itself which we enjoyed when we caught the bus at the entrance to the site. If it’s peace and quiet you’re after, it’s great, if it’s walking you’re after ..... it’s not.
