Why stay here ...

A popular holiday site in North Yorkshire, York Rowntree Park Club Campsite offers level pitches located on the banks of the River Ouse. Some pitches have attractive hedging and glades which provide not only a scenic treat but also ensure your privacy. The Club Campsite is within easy walking distance of the beautiful and historic city of York and also makes for an excellent base from which to explore the Yorkshire area. York itself has so much to see and do that you'll find the time can slip by all too easily. Using a pedestrian gate at the back of the site leads you to a parade of local shops, including a fantastic fish and chip shop with cafe, Indian and Thai restaurants and numerous takeaways as well as a selection of Cafe's, food and convenience shops.

Although the site is near to the city centre, it is peaceful and has a lovely rural feel, with pleasant walks down the side of the river to the Millennium bridge and more. York Rowntree Park Club Campsite is ideal for those wishing to visit York Minster - the largest gothic cathedral in northern Europe. Do include a walk to the city's medieval walls and the Shambles to get a feel of the old city with its medieval timber framed houses. You may also stumble across Snickelways of York which is a collection of small street and footpaths. Why not walk down Whip-ma-whop-ma-gate: a street of historical interest which is the shortest street in York with the longest name. Whilst staying at York Rowntree Park why not call in at the many real ale pubs, The York Dungeons, Jorvik Viking Centre and take a time-car, which will transport you back to the city's distant past. Should you have any budding archaeologists in the family, visit the ARC at St Saviours Church and train enthusiasts of all ages won't want to miss the award-winning National Railway Museum.

Directions

Please Note: From 8 November 2021 until approximately 30 June 2022 work will take place on flood defences in the area around the site. The normal approach road will be closed to facilitate this and a diversion will be in place. Please do not use the site postcode to travel to the site, Clementhorpe is now closed.

If following the club directory instructions to site:

Cross Skeldergate bridge with City Walls on the right, you will see the *Swan public house on the left. Do not turn down Clementhorpe. Continue left passing parade of shops on Bishopthorpe Road.

At the traffic lights proceed straight on Bishopthorpe Road for approximately a quarter of a mile.

Look for the Winning Post pub on the right and then take the third turning on the left into Butcher Terrace (Postcode YO23 1LS), just after traffic island.

At the end of Butcher Terrace proceed onto a temporary road in front of the Millennium Bridge. Stay left and continue on Terry Avenue. Once you pass the main gates to the park it is approximately 300 metres to the site entrance on the left.

If approaching from the A59 follow signs into City Centre. Turn left from Holgate Road into Blossom Street then turn right at the traffic lights onto Nunnery Lane. In approximately 200 metres stay in the right hand lane then follow instructions from the Swan public house, as above. *

No workmen over weekend.don't think embankment work will ever be done. York busy with lots of people about.good bus service to Leeds. Nice to wander round bishopthorpe Road on Sunday for the street party.even in the cool damp weather. Xmas fayre week next.

Great location, very clean well organised, great wardens

York Rowntree Park Club Campsite
Loved this site, great location, really very easy to get to even with the diversions no problem at all, it's sign posted at the last bit. Had a great pitch 49 down the middle a wide pitch plenty of room with hedges dividing the pitches. The showers and toilet block were absolutely spotless! As was the test of the site. Enjoyed the walk into York 20 minutes, lovely walk around Rowntree park at the side, great for kids lots of slides, zip wire, swings & frames and also up to Bishopthorpe Road, several shops couple of pubs take aways etc there & a handy Sainsburys. I would like to thank the wardens on this site, my husband was taken poorly i had loads of washing to do I had no washing powder, they gave me some of theirs as I didn't want to leave him on the site alone. They kept making sure i was okay and asking how he was throughout the day and the next day. They always had a pleasant smile and were nice and friendly and very approachable nothing was too much trouble. I have already booked to go back next year !

Brilliant

York Rowntree Park Club Campsite
I had a brilliant overnight here. Arrived at 1pm and headed straight into York (15 minutes walk) and then returned in the evening by the riverside walk, which is quite a bit longer. Really helpful staff team. I had a very peaceful night and I will return.

Brilliant location, well maintained site with lovely wardens

York Rowntree Park Club Campsite
This site is an excellent base for exploring York, situated next to the river it has excellent walks right on the doorstep. The site is very popular and it’s easy to see why, you can walk into York via a lovely local suburb with great shops, bars and cafes. The site has good facilities, is very well maintained and has lots of benefits being so close to the city. Next door is the lovely Rowntree Park with a great play area for children and nice walks. Also on this site the wardens went out of their way to help us, they were so lovely - Mark and Jules were fantastic and really helped us when we had an issue. Wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend.

Excellent site for visiting the City Centre

York Rowntree Park Club Campsite
We have stayed here many times, using the location for visiting York and much of North Yorkshire. Ideal for walking and cycling. Always busy, but by booking as soon as the dates become available we've managed to get a 10 day stay most years. Over time there have been a number of changes of wardens, but the site has always been well maintained, always tidy. The site is prone to flooding, but you wouldn't notice if you went after one of these events due to the way the site is cleaned up! This year provided more of a challenge to reach the site due to flood defence works causing changes to the approach to the site, though next time we come these will have gone and the directions to the site will revert to the usual instructions! Getting into York required a small diversion if walking in, but only added on a couple of minutes. The only criticism I can make is a common one - there were so many outfits driving round the site well over the 5mph speed limit, and with no obvious intervention by the wardens to slow anyone down! But I accept it's difficult to enforce...
